One of the largest impressionist works by Jamini Roy, this wondrous composition captures the iconic motif of the mother and child that he repeated many times over his prolific output. It is arguably the finest execution from that rare period early period. From the collection of an American diplomat who traveled to India in the late fifties and early sixties, this image was used as the cover image of a film on the artist by Roy’s son.
